Graduating with a marketing degree from Western Carolina University in 1994, Mike Burke swiftly demonstrated his sales prowess by achieving the top salesman position at Scott Clark Toyota within a year. Driven by entrepreneurial spirit, he ventured to Myrtle Beach in 1996 to inaugurate his first tint shop, Innovations. Despite his success, a yearning for home prompted Mike's return to Charlotte, where he launched The Tint Man, rapidly establishing it as the primary tint provider for numerous stereo and accessory shops within a 50-mile radius. The overwhelming demand led to the birth of his first retail outlet, Lighting Mike’s, in 1999. Over the ensuing six years, Mike expanded Lighting Mike’s into six locations across Charlotte, offering a diverse range of automotive aftermarket services, inspections, audio/visual enhancements, accessories, wheels, tires, and the perennial favorite – window tinting.
In 2005, with gross sales reaching $1.6 million, Mike made the decision to divest Lighting Mike’s to prioritize family time. Transitioning from the automotive sector, he leveraged his educational background to establish Pinpoint Advertising, specializing in direct marketing to upscale clientele. After successfully nurturing Pinpoint to self-sufficiency, Mike sold the agency in 2006 to embark on his next venture – Sun Stoppers.
With Sun Stoppers, Mike harnessed his wealth of experience from previous ventures, adopting a marketing strategy reminiscent of Starbucks, prioritizing quality over quantity and focusing on delivering superior products and exceptional customer service. Specializing solely in window tinting, Sun Stoppers swiftly earned a reputation as the premier destination for unrivaled customer experiences and flawless tint installations.
Throughout its 12-year journey, Sun Stoppers has diversified its offerings to encompass mobile tinting, automotive paint protection, roller shades, residential and commercial flat glass tinting, as well as specialty and printed films for commercial storefronts, branding, and advertising. Under Mike's guidance, Sun Stoppers continues to set the standard for excellence in the industry.
